So What Did You Do Last Weekend?

My weekend was a blast! I met up with eleven people I have never seen in my life and we ran a 203 mile relay. I'm usually way too reserved to attempt something this huge - especially with a band of strangers. But, what the heck, I said I wanted to broaden my horizons and this was a chance.

I was lucky enough to get picked up by a team that needed a runner and didn't mind someone really slow. These runners were inspiring! The run from Gonzales to the San Jacinto monument only took 31 hours and 18 minutes thanks to the speed of several team members. Thank you Mid-Texas Symphony Running Team and James Baker for letting me join.

The welcome at many of the small towns was just awesome. Gonzales was a great place to start, running around the center of a sleepy little town just waking up to a lively Saturday morning. The Columbus High School band was good enough to greet us in the Columbus town square with a steel drum band and several members of the wind sections. Great show guys! And the town of Borden (population 22) was having a party for all the runners! The spectators in this race make me glad that I didn't leave Texas after college. What a fun bunch of people.

All I can say after last weekend is I hope to do it again. And James, I've already started training for next year!
